Albeit the atmosphere in our society has been more inclusive than ever for the people living with HIV (PLHIV), the misconception and prejudice still exist. For instance, PLHIVs were rejected by dental clinics and elderly homes, while the mainstream TV station inculcates its audiences with wrong messages. With these, PLHIVs are not as respected as they deserve.

Peter (Anonym), our service user, is diagnosed as positive in HIV infection years ago, suffering from being anxious and skeptical, and gradually stayed away from social life at the beginning. Fortunately, with the support of family members, and the counseling and assistance from the Foundation and Department of Health, he resumed his social life and turned over a new leaf. As a matter of fact, nowadays, especially in the last two decades, becoming HIV positive is not a death sentence and those who contract the disease can enjoy a high quality of life if they stay healthy and are determined in their good drug compliance. Being or living with HIV is no longer an immediate threat to life but is now considered a chronic disease. Putting stigmatization on People Living with HIV (PLHIV) is therefore not warranted.
