The Hong Kong AIDS Foundation (“HKAF”) wishes to express its concern over the upcoming (30 August) review by the Centre for Health Protection, Department of Health, which will assess the HIV/AIDS situation in Hong Kong for the second quarter of 2016.

In view of rising HIV infections in the SAR during the past quarters, with the majority of those infected through sexual transmission, HKAF will introduce a number of activities as part of its “Love with Sextitude” campaign, which encourages the community to adopt a healthy and responsible attitude towards sex.

Ms. Eris Lau, Chief Executive of HKAF, said, “Although people understand that practicing safe sex is the most effective way to prevent HIV infection, some still run the risk for such reasons as believing that they are in a ‘stable relationship’ with their partner, lack the willpower to insist on safe sex, enjoy the pleasure of unprotected sex or are simply too impulsive. Without complete knowledge of your partner’s sexual history and level of fidelity, the use of condoms and taking regular HIV antibody tests are the best means of protecting yourself from possible HIV infection or other sexually transmitted diseases.”

HIV antibody testing should be considered part of a regular checkup. HKAF is now calling on those who have a history of unsafe sex to contact the Foundation at 2513 0513 for HIV testing, which should be conducted three months after [unprotected sexual exposure/possible HIV exposure]. HKAF has testing facilities in Lai Chi Kok, Central and Shaukeiwan.
