Today is International Women’s Day. According to the latest figures on the HIV/AIDS situation in Hong Kong released by The Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health, the number of new HIV infections among females in Hong Kong has increased from 89 cases (13.1%) in 2017 to 94 cases (15.1%) in 2018. In addition, the statistics also revealed that the number of new HIV infections among non-Chinese has increased from 99 cases (14.5%) in 2017 to 138 cases (22.1%) in 2018.
In view of this, the Foundation will continue to work closely with various non-Chinese service organizations to carry out different educational activities, including organizing educational talks and setting up promotional booths, for ethnic minorities (in particular women) in Hong Kong. Besides, we have been conducting more and more outreach services at places frequented by ethnic minorities. Education materials are also distributed during the outreach to raise their awareness of self-protection and HIV/AIDS prevention.
